I just discovered author Marie Bostwick this year. I enjoyed her most recent book so much that I decided I wanted to read more of her work. Thus far, I've read about a half dozen, but my favorite thus far is "A Single Thread." The first in a series about a group of friends in a small town in Connecticut, it offers my three winning elements: women's friendships, a small town setting, and a happy ending. Bostwick's writing is wonderful--wry, blunt, humorous, honest, descriptive without being over the top. I look forward to reading all 20+ of her books!
Marie Bostwick weaves the unforgettable story of four very different women whose paths cross, changing their lives forever. . .
It's a long way from Fort Worth, Texas, to New Bern, Connecticut, yet it only takes a day in the charming Yankee town to make Evelyn Dixon realize she's found her new home. The abrupt end of her marriage was Evelyn's wake-up call to get busy chasing her dream of opening a quilt shop. Finding a storefront is easy enough; starting a new life isn't. Little does Evelyn imagine it will bring a trio like Abigail Burgess, her niece Liza,…
It took me to a world I knew virtually nothing about. Her information about the plants and creatures of the Limberlost swamp was fascinating, and her character descriptions were so detailed, I felt like I KNEW those people.
I'm not much for crime stories or murder mysteries, and my knowledge of Sherlock Holmes is limited, but this book was a really fun escape. Being inside the world of a bookstore is always a treat, and Delany does a masterful job of blending mystique and tension with humor and surprises.
Hayley Swift, a country music diva who has slipped out of the limelight, gets more attention when she’s mistaken for Taylor Swift’s mom than for her former glory days. When she’s invited to perform at her 35th high school reunion but an accident puts her back-up singers in a hospital, Hayley begs her long-gone-domestic quartet from high school to join her onstage for the gig. They’re such a hit, she invites the women to fill in on a low-budget tour for a couple of weeks while her singers recover. Thrilled at the chance to flee routine for a dream deferred for decades, the friends readily accept. Nefarious flirtations, indiscriminate mood swings, equipment malfunctions, and a few nasty catfights combine to wreak havoc, but it’s a crazed stalker, an overzealous fan, and unexpected health issues that ultimately derail the road trip. In the midst of the mayhem, friendships and fantasies are redefined as the women come together to face one’s debilitating illness. True love emerges from the tragedy, though, and the friends discover new strengths and aspirations as this adventure ends and new ones begin.
