I loved the unique way this story is told. It was clear right from the start that the author had a real depth of understanding of metal distress and portrayed this honestly and sensitively. The lived experience is deftly woven with the fantasy mystery aspects to create beautiful storytelling.

I loved the world created in this book. I originally picked it up because I like the author and the plot featured working dogs. I was further drawn in by the characters and the unusual life they were living. Family and all the complicated forms it takes is a big theme here, and I found the way that's explored beautiful.

It's hard to say I loved this book because it's one I found incredibly hard to read in a lot of ways. I felt a looming sense of dread throughout, which is testament to how well the author has created tension and mystery within the story. I found this to be a very heavy but captivating book that made me think.
