E.I. Parr ❀️ loved this book because...

The first in Follett's 'Century Trilogy', this book brought that period in history to life by presenting the experiences of individuals and families. Historical facts were imbued with the breath of life.

What is this book about?

This is an epic of love, hatred, war and revolution. This is a huge novel that follows five families through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for votes for women. It is 1911. The Coronation Day of King George V. The Williams, a Welsh coal-mining family, is linked by romance and enmity to the Fitzherberts, aristocratic coal-mine owners. Lady Maud Fitzherbert falls in love with Walter von Ulrich, a spy at the German Embassy in London. Their destiny is entangled with that of an ambitious young aide to U.S. President Woodrow Wilson…

Book cover of Winter of the World

E.I. Parr ❀️ loved this book because...

The second of Follett's 'Century Trilogy', ( I have yet to read the third.) Another portrayal of the experiences and suffering of human beings. It does not shy away from horror or humility.

Donβ€˜t forget about my book πŸ˜€

Thistle in the Long Grass

By E.I. Parr ,

Book cover of Thistle in the Long Grass

What is my book about?

A psychological, and at times disturbing drama which draws the reader into the lives of three very different young women living in southern England during the mid-20C. The story begins with Thistle, (a name she adopts for herself,) who experiences an emotionally damaging and traumatic childhood. She goes on to navigate adult life using a warped emotional compass.
Her relationships with Hilary and Fliss spark changes in all their lives. As plots interweave, the reader accompanies the characters on their individual journeys, which are full of unexpected twists and turns. The storyline incorporates social conventions of the time, as it explores love, loss, destiny, chance, and the developmental process of its main protagonists. True to real life, there is conflict, humour, and pathos.
