Clemens P. Suter ❤️ loved this book because...

A highly immersive and haunting novel. Hard to put down, a Hitchcockian portrait of colleage life and full of foreboding.

THE BESTSELLER THAT DEFINED AN AGE

'Everything, somehow, fit together; some sly and benevolent Providence was revealing itself by degrees and I felt myself trembling on the brink of a fabulous discovery, as though any morning it was all going to come together---my future, my past, the whole of my life---and I was going to sit up in bed like a thunderbolt and say oh! oh! oh!'

Under the influence of a charismatic classics professor, a group of clever, eccentric misfits at a New England college discover a way of thought and life a world away from their banal contemporaries.…

My 2nd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of The Lady in the Lake

Clemens P. Suter ❤️ loved this book because...

Hard to imagine Chandler wrote this crime story about a century ago. It still reads like the magnificient original it was back then; with a surprising depth of character and a shocker every few pages. Chandler truely was a master story teller and created the basis for many books that followed in this genre.

My 3rd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of Siddhartha

Clemens P. Suter ❤️ loved this book because...

This Hesse classic cemented his fame as an author, and has influenced students every since, not just in the 1960 hippie era. I read it mostly due to my interest in Buddhism, and as such Hesse more or less accurately follows the story of Buddha and his road to wisdom. Truly a classic that you should not pass by.

Here the spirituality of the East and the West have met in a novel that enfigures deep human wisdom with a rich and colorful imagination.
