Book cover of Impossible Creatures

Susan Magsamen ❤️ loved this book because...

This book is magical realism, focused on hope, courage, faith and believing in things you don't have proof of. It's an adventure about saving the plant, which pulls in all the mythological creatures from all the books you've ever heard of - mermaids, centaurs, and more. An Instant classic. I judge a book by how it makes me feel, and this one makes me hang on every word, it's so powerful, it gets right to the heart of things.

My 3rd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Juniper

Susan Magsamen ❤️ loved this book because...

About a young girl that learns her power, becoming an intuitive or a wise woman. At it's core, it's really about finding your power, mastering it, and using it in different ways for good. The writing is engaging and immersive. Monica Furlong, a theologian and scholar with a strong religious background, recognized through her work that women were being marginalized. These books are about the power in women and the power of femininity in men. It's subversive in a way, she's writing against the church dogma, even though she was of the church.
