Book cover of Mushroom Blues

❤️ loved this book because...

Although there are lots of fungal horror books out there, this one has everything. The author, Adrian Gibson, is obviously a mushroom head, and his love of fungi makes him a fun guy to read. The story is a combination of noir, mystery, police procedural and a bit of horror, too.

My 2nd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of The Name of the Wind

❤️ loved this book because...

This was a re-read for me. I bought the 10 year anniversary edition years after reading a tattered library copy. I consider this one of the most absorbing and moving fantasy novels of all time, up there with The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

My 3rd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of The Reddening

❤️ loved this book because...

Another re-reading of my favorite Adam Nevill novel. This was first offered as a free ebook on Amazon, which I read with astonishment. I do not like ebooks, but this was captivating and made me a confirmed Folk Horror aficionado. I bought the paperback to add to my collection of Nevill's fantastic works, and he has become my favorite horror author. His are the only books I actually will keep and read again and again.
