My favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Polostan

👍 liked this book because...

I found the protagonist to be an admirable character, and (since apparently we have the potential of a series here) I'm interested to find out what happens next. The author brings the scientific and technological advances of the time alive by putting us in the shoes of those who observed them, and also illustrates the influence that individuals can have on what we'd usually consider "larger than life" movements. Finally, I'm a big fan of Stephenson's slightly irreverent and always engaging writing style.

Book cover of Your Absence Is Darkness

👍 liked this book because...

Overall, the books portrays many "sad" events, but even so, the book itself is not a "downer." The author showed the rewarding sides of life in an isolated locale among a small population, and I loved how the plot wove back and forth between events of past and their influence on the present.
