I love this book because it’s full of action, fueled by quirky characters who made me laugh. Miranda Abbott makes an unlikely self-assertive heroine, but I was captivated by her from the very first page. The clever plot is full of surprises. And I love the setting of the small town of Happy Rock, including the bookstore named ‘I Only Read Murder’.
“Strap in for a hilarious and satisfying ride.” —Terry Fallis, bestselling author of Operation Angus
A once-famous TV sleuth An amateur theater production An onstage murder A town full of suspects…
Miranda Abbott, once known for the crime-solving, karate-chopping church pastor she played on network television, has hit hard times. She’s facing ruin when a mysterious postcard arrives, summoning her to Happy Rock, a small town in the Pacific Northwest. But when she gets there, nothing is what she expected.
In dire straits, she signs up for an amateur production at the Happy Rock Little Theater. On opening night, one…
I love this book because of the uniqueness of the characters and the outstanding plot. It’s a fast-paced comedic thriller. Paul Mulchrone is an endearing protagonist despite all his faults. For reasons beyond his control, he becomes a fugitive. But this isn’t a typical run-of-the-mill story about a man on the run. McDonnell has created inventive and entertaining adventures for his hero, and his colourful nurse companion enhances the drama. Add the whacky police officer into the mix, and the result is a great read.
The first time somebody tried to kill him was an accident.
The second time was deliberate.
Now Paul Mulchrone finds himself on the run with nobody to turn to except a nurse who has read one-too-many crime novels and a renegade copper with a penchant for violence. Together they must solve one of the most notorious crimes in Irish history . . .
. . . or else they’ll be history.
A Man With One of Those Faces is the first book in Caimh McDonnell's Dublin Trilogy, which melds fast-paced action with a distinctly Irish acerbic wit.
I love this book because it’s a compelling and suspenseful mystery served with lashings of humour. Kate Hilton and Elizabeth Renzetti skillfully submerged me into the often-ruthless worlds of small-town journalism and local theatre. The characters are engaging—especially the multi-layered Cat Conway, the protagonist, and the vain actors with fragile egos. I enjoyed every page.
'What Happened to Frank' is the first of six books in the Meg Sheppard Mystery Series. Each novel is fast-paced and set in the crazy world of thoroughbred horse racing.
On the dreaded anniversary of Frank's untimely death, Meg's conviction that it was no accident turns into a keen determination to find out who killed her husband. As she follows the bends in the road, she discovers who her true two-legged and four-legged friends are, but also unearths facts she finds tough to face.
