Book cover of Whole Brain Living: The Anatomy of Choice and the Four Characters That Drive Our Life

Timber Hawkeye ❀️ loved this book because...

As a follow-up to Jill Bolte-Taylor's TED Talk "My Stroke of Insight" and previous book with the same title, this is a thought-provoking invitation to sort of befriend our own brain by understanding its functionality and, dare I say, personality.

I often read a serious book followed by a fun novel, then another serious book, and so on. This book is definitely on the serious side (borderline textbook), but fascinating if you're into cerebral stimulation.

What is this book about?

Discover how to tap into the present moment, shift out of anxiety and gain a sense of deep inner peace by understanding the brain's two hemispheres.

At age 37, Harvard neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor suffered a massive left-hemisphere stroke that took away her ability to speak, walk, read, write or remember any of her life - and gave her an unprecedented, profound experience of dwelling in the right hemisphere and the sense of oneness and peace to be found there. Her recovery led to her writing the New York Times bestseller My Stroke of Insight, being named one of Time…

My 3rd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of James

Timber Hawkeye ❀️ loved this book because...

I didn't want this book to end. The way the author depicts the brutal reality of the south during slavery by telling the story of a boy's journey, determination, and audacity, is engaging, enraging, and endearing all at the same time.

The Opposite of Namaste

By Timber Hawkeye ,

Book cover of The Opposite of Namaste

What is my book about?

Practicing Mindfulness doesn't make other people less irritating, it makes us less irritable. The meaning behind "The Opposite of Namaste" is that I understand why you do what you do, because the ego in me sees the ego in you. It's not about living in a bubble where nobody pushes your buttons, it's about getting to a point where you don't have any buttons that can be pushed.

Each chapter in this book offers food-for-thought about the non-judgmental benefits of recognizing and acknowledging both the ego and the divinity within us all.
