This is the year I belatedly discovered Sally Thorne, and oh boy!

I've had this book sitting around for awhile and found myself in a slump so I opened the next book on my shelf willy-nilly and blasted through this in a few days. Its cute, sweet, and just the right amount of angst. I usually read dual pov romance, but didn't fell like anything was missing in this one despite being only Ruthie's pov, though I'm sure chapters for Teddy would have been super fun.

Both characters have great growth and realistic problems. Ruthie is trapped in a cell of her own (and her parent's making) and Teddy has been too slow to grow up. In a perfect opposites attract pair-up they both make each other better in the best possible ways. I wasn't sure how they happy ending would work out for everyone at times (ie what would happen with Providence?) but it wrapped up really sweetly with a great balance of moving on and everyone finding their place (including the side characters)

As someone who was also an old lady from a young age, Ruthie stole my heart and I found myself totally happy for her in the end.

First impressions aren't always what they seem . . .

Ruthie Midona is twenty-four (going on ninety-four) and fully committed to her job at a luxury retirement village. Keeping herself busy caring for the eccentric residents means that Ruthie can safely ignore her own life - what little there is of it.

Teddy Prescott is practically allergic to a hard day's work. When he rocks up as the retirement village's newest employee, Ruthie is less than impressed.…

My 2nd favorite read in 2025

Book cover of More Than a Little Spark

Isla Ryder ❤️ loved this book because...

I am a long time resident of Stargazer Springs and this was a super fun addition to the series!

The meet cute for this one, though dire, was very cute. How else do you make car crash cute than do it in costume? I really enjoyed that although Daphne was a literal damsel in distress to begin with that was not her whole personality, or really, any of it beyond the accident. She had her life (mostly) together and meeting Carson was icing on the cake.

Carson is not to overly-typical male lead—he's got a little extra around the middle—and that was refreshing too. That little bit of uncertainly made him well rounded (ugh sorry lol) but didn't overtake the rest of his personality.

Fred was a nice addition throwing a kink into their relationship the way only a pre-teen boy could.

What is this book about?

A car crash. A cowboy. And a moody tween. That’s how my happily-ever-after starts. An adorable cowboy literally carries me to safety after my car flips, and that’s when I feel it. The spark. Until meeting him, I always thought the spark was just figurative. Nope. Real tingles. He’s friendly and attentive but cautious, and I start to think he isn’t interested. Then I get the scoop. Carson recently adopted his nephew and is learning to be a dad. To a preteen. That only makes me like Carson more. I make that clear, and we start dating. Taking it slow, we date in…

Book cover of The Hating Game

I can't believe I slept on Sally Thorne for so long. But on the other hand, now I have a new back catalog to go through!

I almost didn't even get into this one, because TBH I generally can't stand the 'he's so big, she's so little' trope and all that goes with it. But the angst and UST in this one overtook that for me. I enjoyed the 'games' they had in the office, and how ridiculous they were.

Anyway, this one is actually hard to review because while reading it I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though Lucy was probably the most clueless person ever literally EVERYONE else can see Josh's feelings for her and it takes her 300+ pages to believe him?

But, I'm going off enjoyment in the moment. I do wish we got total clarity on the results of the interview a the end, maybe a quick little epilogue about their trip to her parent's farm (to celebrate) because its a romance HEA is a given, still... I wanted to see it.

What is this book about?

Debut author Sally Thorne bursts on the scene with a hilarious and sexy workplace comedy all about that thin, fine line between hate and love. Nemesis (n.) 1) An opponent or rival whom a person cannot best or overcome. 2) A person's undoing 3) Joshua Templeman Lucy Hutton has always been certain that the nice girl can get the corner office. She's charming and accommodating and prides herself on being loved by everyone at Bexley & Gamin. Everyone except for coldly efficient, impeccably attired, physically intimidating Joshua Templeman. And the feeling is mutual. Trapped in a shared office together forty…

Show Ponies and Single Dads

By Isla Ryder ,

Book cover of Show Ponies and Single Dads

What is my book about?

Sweet, stand-alone, slow-burn, age gap romance.

After his ex-wife’s unexpected passing, Aiden is determined to step up for his daughter, Olivia—even if it means braving the confusing world of horse shows. As a newcomer, he’s quickly overwhelmed, and when Olivia’s trainer berates him, he’s ready to retreat to the safety of the bleachers.

For Molly, braiding horses isn’t just a job; it’s her way of staying close to the equestrian world she loves. When she overhears a clueless dad being reprimanded by a trainer, she steps in with encouraging words and an offer to help.

With Molly’s guidance, Aiden gains confidence and learns what it truly means to be a great horse show dad. When they begin to spend more time together, both on the showgrounds and off, their connection deepens. But Aiden worries Olivia might not be open to a new woman in his life.

As the line of friendship blurs into romance, Aiden realizes he wants more. Is Molly ready to be more than a mentor to Olivia?
