My favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Who is Frank di Callo?

Professor Gregor Reid ❤️ loved this book because...

The plot is original - reading a book that is supposed to be fiction but the reader realizes the chapter events actually happened and now two events are unfolding. The implications are big, so the reader tries to investigate and see if he can stop the events from happening. The second of these has implications for the very nature of the United States and relates to what's actually happening today.

Book cover of The Reversal

Professor Gregor Reid ❤️ loved this book because...

The author clearly knows the process of the criminal legal system. His court scenes are great and he twists the narrative to eventually pull you in to the climax.

What is this book about?

Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch together take on a seemingly unwinnable case in blistering legal thriller from Number One bestseller Michael Connelly.

When defence lawyer Mickey Haller is invited by the Los Angeles County District Attorney to prosecute a case for him, he knows something strange is going on. Mickey's one of the best American legal brains in the business, and to switch sides likes this would be akin to asking a fox to guard the hen-house. But the high-profile case of Jason Jessup, a convicted child killer who spent almost 25 years on death row before DNA evidence freed…

Book cover of At Half-Light: A Story of Tango and Memory

Professor Gregor Reid ❤️ loved this book because...

Intertwined with stories of the disappeared (which reminded me of U2's song) are the moves and influence of Tango dancing. It wouldn't have been something that I thought would be worthy of a book but Linda does it beautifully

What is this book about?

From 1976 to 1983, during a brutal military regime in Argentina, thousands of people disappeared. In At Half-Light, Alejandra’s parents have fled the dictatorship and settled in Peterborough, Canada. As a child, she discovers they have been keeping terrible secrets from her and suffers from nightmares. She is comforted by her grandfather’s stories of his life as an orphan in a tenement house in Buenos Aires at the turn of the last century. The stories are filled with colourful characters – singers, thieves, and fortune tellers. He fills the house with tango music and teaches her to dance. When her…

Don‘t forget about my book 😀

Probiotics: A story about hope

By Professor Gregor Reid ,

Book cover of Probiotics: A story about hope

What is my book about?

Rather than a book with tables and figures, this one tells the story of rejection, ridicule and redemption. It describes what probiotics are and what they are not, highlighting the real science rather than false storytelling. It describes empowering women in Africa to create microenterprises, and lastly, it describes fascinating and humourous travel stories as the author embarked on his forty-year career.
Featured in several podcasts, notably Rich Roll where it has over 104,000 views, this is a book worth keeping if you want to use beneficial microbes to stay healthy.
