Like eating a delicious meal, I savoured every page slowly of this book and soaked up the incredible writing, insightful observations, and poetic descriptions of the earth, the planet, the environment and the intensity of the world in which we live. The writing is evocative and insightful, the emotions expressed created empathy and the situations moved me and shadowed many of those I feel myself.

John Boyne has to be one of the most versatile writers I've read and I love everything of his that has crossed my path so far. A Ladder to The Sky is wonderful. Fascinating story, interesting characters, twists and turns that I didn't see coming and it left me in awe of how this writer weaves his stories around such characters. He's masterful at writing despicable characters, and I became immersed in the story so much that I didn't want it to end.
“A satire of writerly ambition wrapped in a psychological thriller . . . An homage to Patricia Highsmith, Oscar Wilde and Edgar Allan Poe, but its execution is entirely Boyne’s own.”—Ron Charles, The Washington Post
NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY THE WASHINGTON POST AND MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE
Maurice Swift is handsome, charming, and hungry for fame. The one thing he doesn’t have is talent—but he’s not about to let a detail like that stand in his way. After all, a would-be writer can find stories anywhere. They don’t need to be his own.
Fascinating, emotional story about two cultures -- Cypriot and British -- and the individuals who were catapulted across the world and had such intense experiences. Shadowing the story of the fig tree, this story was a beautiful read that remained with me long after I'd finished the book. Elif Shafak is a masterful storyteller.
